2 Samuel

Chapter 12

1 AND the LORD sent Nathan the prophet to David. And he came to him and said to him, There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor.

2 The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds;

3 But the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb which he had bought; and it lived together with him and with his children; it did eat of his food and drink from his cup and lie in his bosom, and it was to him like a daughter.

4 And there came a guest to the rich man, and he refused to take of his own herds or flocks to make a banquet for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man's ewe lamb and prepared it for the guest who had come to him.

5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said, As the LORD lives, the man who has done this thing is worthy of death;

6 And he shall restore the ewe lamb fourfold because he did this thing and because he had no pity.

7 And Nathan said to David, You are the man. Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I anointed you king over my people Israel and I delivered you out of the hands of Saul,

8 And I gave you your master's daughters and your master's wives into your bosom, and I also gave you the daughters of Israel and of Judah; and if they were too few you should have told me, and I would have added to you twice that many.

9 Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD and have done that which is evil in the sight of the LORD? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have slain him with the sword of the Ammonites.

10 Now therefore the sword shall not depart from your house for ever; because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

11 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with them in the broad daylight.

12 For you did it secretly; but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, in the daytime.

13 And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said to David, The LORD also has put away your transgression; you shall not die.

14 Nevertheless, because by this deed you have made the enemies of the LORD to boast, the son also that is born to you shall surely die.

15 Then Nathan went to his house. And the LORD struck the child that the wife of Uriah the Hittite bore to David, and it was very sick.

16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.

17 And the eiders of his household arose and tried to raise him up from the ground, but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

18 And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not listen to us; how then shall we tell him now that the child is dead? He may react violently.

19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead; therefore he said to his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his garments and went into the house of the LORD and worshipped; then he came to his own house and asked for food, and they set it before him and he did eat.

21 Then his servants said to him, What is this that you have done? While the child was still alive, you were fasting and praying, but when he was dead, you did rise up and eat food.

22 David said to them, While the child was still alive, I fasted and prayed; for I said, Who knows whether God will be gracious to me, and let the child live?

23 But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he cannot return to me.

24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her; and she bore a son, and she called his name Solomon; and the LORD loved the child.

25 Then he sent for Nathan the prophet; and he named the child Jedidah because the LORD loved him.

26 And Joab fought against Rabbath of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

27 And Joab sent messengers to David and said, I have fought against Rabbath and I have also taken the royal city.

28 Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and come and encamp against the city and take it; lest I take the city, and it shall be called after my name.

29 So David gathered all the people together and went against Rabbath, and fought against it and took it.

30 And he took their king's crown from off his head; the weight of it was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.

31 And he brought forth the people who were in it, and put them in iron bands and in chains, and made them pass through the measuring line; and thus did he to all the cities of the Ammonites. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

Kapitel 12

1 Und der HErr3068 sandte7971 Nathan5416 zu David1732. Da der zu ihm kam, sprach559 er zu ihm: Es waren935 zween Männer582 in einer259 Stadt5892, einer259 reich6223, der andere259 arm7326.

2 Der Reiche6223 hatte sehr3966 viele7235 Schafe6629 und Rinder1241;

3 aber der Arme7326 hatte7069 nichts denn ein259 einiges kleines6996 Schäflein3535, das er2421 gekauft hatte; und er nährete es, daß es groß ward1431 bei ihm und bei seinen Kindern1121 zugleich3162; es aß398 von seinem Bissen6595 und trank8354 von seinem Becher3563 und schlief7901 in seinem Schoß2436, und er hielt‘s wie eine Tochter1323.

4 Da aber dem reichen6223 Mann376 ein376 Gast1982 kam935, schonete er2550, zu6213 nehmen3947 von seinen Schafen6629 und Rindern1241, daß er dem Gast732 etwas zurichtete, der zu ihm kommen war935, und nahm3947 das Schaf3535 des armen7326 Mannes und richtete es zu dem Manne376, der zu ihm kommen war935.

5 Da ergrimmete David1732 mit großem Zorn639 wider den Mann376 und1121 sprach559 zu3966 Nathan5416: So wahr der HErr3068 lebt2416, der Mann376 ist ein Kind des Todes4194, der das getan6213 hat!

6 Dazu soll er das1697 Schaf3535 vierfältig706 bezahlen7999, darum daß6118 er solches getan6213 und nicht geschonet hat2550.

7 Da sprach559 Nathan5416 zu David1732: Du559 bist der Mann376. So spricht der HErr3068, der GOtt430 Israels3478: Ich habe dich zum Könige4428 gesalbet über Israel3478 und habe dich errettet5337 aus der Hand3027 Sauls7586;

8 und habe dir deines Herrn113 Haus1004 gegeben5414, dazu seine Weiber802 in deinen Schoß2436, und habe dir das Haus1004 Israel3478 und Juda3063 gegeben5414; und ist das zu wenig4592, will ich noch3254 dies2007 und das dazu tun.

9 Warum hast6213 du5221 denn das Wort1697 des HErrn3068 verachtet959, daß du solches Übel vor seinen Augen5869 tätest? Uria223, den Hethiter2850, hast3947 du erschlagen mit dem7451 Schwert2719; sein Weib802 hast du dir zum Weib802 genommen, ihn aber hast du erwürget2026 mit dem Schwert2719 der Kinder1121 Ammon5983.

10 Nun, so soll3947 von deinem Hause1004 das Schwert2719 nicht lassen ewiglich5769, darum daß6118 du mich verachtet959 hast und das Weib802 Urias223, des Hethiters2850, genommen hast, daß sie5493 dein Weib802 sei.

11 So spricht der HErr3068: Siehe, ich will Unglück7451 über dich erwecken6965 aus deinem eigenen Hause1004 und will deine Weiber802 nehmen3947 vor5869 deinen Augen5869 und will sie559 deinem Nächsten7453 geben5414, daß er bei deinen Weibern802 schlafen7901 soll an der lichten Sonne8121.

12 Denn du hast1697‘s heimlich5643 getan6213; ich aber will dies tun6213 vor dem ganzen Israel3478 und an der Sonne8121.

13 Da sprach559 David1732 zu Nathan5416: Ich habe5674 gesündiget wider den HErrn3068. Nathan5416 sprach559 zu David1732: So hat auch der HErr3068 deine Sünde2398 weggenommen, du wirst nicht sterben4191.

14 Aber657 weil du die Feinde341 des HErrn3068 hast1697 durch diese Geschichte lästern5006 gemacht5006, wird der Sohn1121, der dir geboren ist3209, des Todes4191 sterben4191.

15 Und Nathan5416 ging3212 heim1004. Und der HErr3068 schlug5062 das Kind3206, das Urias223 Weib802 David1732 geboren hatte3205, daß es todkrank ward605.

16 Und1732 David1732 ersuchte GOtt430 um das Knäblein5288 und fastete6684; und ging935 hinein und lag7901 über Nacht3885 auf der Erde776.

17 Da stunden auf6965 die Ältesten2205 seines Hauses1004 und wollten ihn aufrichten6965 von der Erde776; er3899 wollte14 aber nicht und aß1262 auch nicht mit ihnen.

18 Am siebenten7637 Tage3117 aber starb4191 das Kind3206. Und6213 die Knechte5650 Davids1732 fürchteten3372 sich, ihm anzusagen5046, daß das Kind3206 tot wäre. Denn sie559 gedachten: Siehe, da das Kind3206 noch4191 lebendig war, redeten1696 wir mit ihm, und er2416 gehorchte8085 unserer Stimme6963 nicht7451; wie viel mehr wird es ihm wehe tun6213, so wir sagen559: Das Kind3206 ist tot.

19 Da aber David1732 sah7200, daß seine Knechte5650 leise redeten3907, und1732 merkte995, daß das Kind3206 tot wäre4191, sprach559 er1732 zu4191 seinen Knechten5650: Ist das Kind3206 tot? Sie sprachen559: Ja.

20 Da stund David1732 auf6965 von der Erde776 und wusch7364 sich5480 und salbete sich7812 und tat935 andere2498 Kleider8071 an; und ging935 in das Haus1004 des HErrn3068 und betete an. Und da er7760 wieder heimkam1004, hieß7592 er ihm Brot3899 auftragen und aß398.

21 Da sprachen559 seine Knechte5650 zu6213 ihm: Was ist398 das1697 für ein Ding, das du1058 tust? Da das Kind3206 lebte2416, fastetest6684 du und weinetest; nun es aber gestorben4191 ist, stehest du auf6965 und issest?

22 Er2416 sprach559: Um das Kind3206 fastete6684 ich1058 und weinete, da es lebte2416; denn ich gedachte559: Wer weiß3045, ob mir der HErr3068 gnädig2603 wird2603, daß das Kind3206 lebendig bleibe.

23 Nun es aber tot ist, was soll ich fasten6684? Kann3201 ich es auch wiederum7725 holen? Ich werde wohl zu4191 ihm fahren1980, es kommt aber nicht wieder7725 zu mir.

24 Und da David1732 sein Weib802 Bathseba getröstet5162 hatte157, ging935 er zu ihr hinein und schlief7901 bei ihr. Und sie gebar3205 einen Sohn1121, den hieß7121 er Salomo8010. Und der HErr3068 liebte ihn8034.

25 Und er tat ihn8034 unter die Hand3027 Nathans5416, des7971 Propheten5030; der hieß7121 ihn Jedidja3041 um des HErrn3068 willen.

26 So stritt3898 nun Joab3097 wider Rabba7237 der Kinder1121 Ammon5983 und gewann3920 die königliche4410 Stadt5892.

27 Und3097 sandte Boten4397 zu David1732 und5892 ließ7971 ihm sagen559: Ich habe gestritten3898 wider Rabba7237 und habe auch gewonnen3920 die4325 Wasserstadt.

28 So nimm622 nun zuhauf622 das übrige3499 Volk5971 und5892 belagere die Stadt5892 und gewinne sie2583, auf daß ich sie3920 nicht gewinne und ich den Namen8034 davon habe7121.

29 Also nahm622 David1732 alles Volk5971 zuhauf622 und zog3212 hin und stritt3898 wider Rabba7237 und gewann3920 sie.

30 Und68 nahm3947 die Krone5850 ihres Königs4428 von seinem Haupt7218, die am Gewicht4948 einen Zentner3603 Goldes2091 hatte7998 und Edelgesteine3368, und ward David1732 auf sein Haupt7218 gesetzt; und führete aus3318 der Stadt5892 sehr3966 viel7235 Raubs.

31 Aber das Volk5971 drinnen führete er heraus3318 und legte7760 sie unter eiserne1270 Sägen4050 und Zacken2757 und eiserne1270 Keile4037 und verbrannte sie in5674 Ziegelöfen4404. So tat6213 er allen Städten5892 der Kinder1121 Ammon5983. Da kehrete David1732 und alles Volk5971 wieder7725 gen Jerusalem3389.
